Tuesday, July 26: Pleasure and Its Discontent: Evolutionary and Psychoanalytic Perspectives

Dr. Eugene  Goldwater, BGSP faculty & Director of Addictions Counseling, will provide an overview of a psychoanalytic understanding of addictions.  How can the intensive pursuit of pleasure lead to outcomes that are intensely unpleasant?  Are addictions driven by unconscious conflicts, maturational blocks, or unaccustomed abundance in our contemporary environment?

Dr. Jane Snyder, BGSP President, will lead a discussion drawing on her own and participants’ experiences in working with addictions and thinking about how psychoanalytic understanding may be applied.

Evening Activity: Wine and Oysters, Dr. Snyder’s Cape house, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
