When Seniors Need Long Term Care

Saturday, May 7, 2016 | 1:00 to 3:00 PM

Moving out of one’s home and into a long-term care setting can be traumatic, and caring for seniors with psychiatric disorders in a long-term care setting is challenging for staff.  In this workshop, we will discuss the challenges facing seniors who are downsizing and moving to assisted living facilities or long-term care settings, as well as challenges for staff caring for seniors in these settings.

Objectives:

This workshop is designed to help the participant

  1. Explore seniors’ emotional connections to their possessions.
  2. Discuss  how to use techniques such as “receptive listening” to help seniors navigate the difficult process of rightsizing, moving and settling in.
  3. Identify the challenges of staff in helping Seniors transition to long term care facilities
