Bayda Asbridge
Alan Kurdi’s Dream of Peace, 2016

Saori weaving of cellophane & acrylic yarn on spiral Masonite board
4’ x 11’

“On the second of Sept. 2015, the image of Alan Kurdi, a three year old Syrian boy of Kurdish decent, surfaced in the media and quickly spread around the world prompting international attention to the Syrian refugee crisis. As an American-Syrian artist, I found myself compelled to express my horror at the complacency of the international community to the plight of my people. The Saori weaving mounted on a spiral piece of wood represents this little child’s large dream of peace that was drowned into the blue spiral of the Mediterranean Sea.”
