Odin, Defender of Resources, 2017

Bone, copper, silver, oil shale
24” x 12” x 7”

Odin is inspired by the Norse mythology. He was known as the god of battle, but also of wisdom, magic, and poetry. His shield symbolizes self-preservation while his spear symbolizes aggression. The chunk of oil shale on which he stands symbolizes the irony of mortal beings relying on the remains of other mortal beings while scarring the earth for petroleum consumption, a pursuit that will ultimately lead to the destruction of all mortal beings. This self-cannibalization is a sign of the times and rampant indifference to natural resource depletion.”
